Here is a reminder of the important safety precautions that your family should take to have a safe and happy Christmas holiday.
The first group of safety hazards will be with your Christmas decorations. By now you will have already started to put them up. First make sure that if you have young children that you don’t use many decorations with sharp points or that can easily break. These can hurt the unsuspecting in your family. For younger children, try to avoid possible choking hazard by not using decorations with choking hazards. However there may be some exceptions such as tinsel. Fire hazards are another major danger to be aware of. If you have a fireplace in your home this would be the most obvious. The simple precautions will be to make sure that the great is in place and baby proof it for your younger children when you light it or warn older children not to stay too close. A less obvious fire hazard is Christmas lights and Christmas trees. Make sure that you take extra care with arranging the lights and check the entire cord of lights for any expose wiring. You want to avoid sparks escaping from shorts and setting a fire. Also be aware that whether your tree is real or plastic it can be quite flammable so take suitable precautions to reduce the risk. A good idea is to have a fire extinguisher in the same room and keep the tree away from walls.
