The University of Alabama’s football program is perhaps its most popular athletics program of all. It began in’92 and is one of the country’s oldest and most well-established football programs. As a team, Alabama has won 21 SEC titles and 12 national championships. They have also had 55 bowl appearances and won 32 of them. In addition, the school has produced’ hall-of-famers and 96 All-Americans.
Despite the fact that the men’s basketball program is often overlooked in regards to the football program, only Kentucky has had more SEC tournament titles, SEC basketball wins, and regular season titles. The University of Alabama has also had 7 NCAA Sweet Sixteen appearances and has had the second most NCAA tournament successes without attaining the Final Four.
Like most universities, there are several big traditions at the school. The official mascot, an elephant called “Big Al” was chosen by a campus wide contest. A bonfire is ignited and a pep rally is held on the evening before the school’s homecoming day and a parade is held the next morning in order to launch the day’s festivities. Lastly, devoted fans like to give the “Rammer Jammer” cheer after a big victory.
